DIARY

October 14, 1937
Finally I got the time to take you out of that broken drawer. I have so many things going on in my mind right now and it is driving me crazy. I can't talk about this to my wife nor anyone else. I just need to express my thoughts somewhere safe.
Right now is 1937, the weather is slightly windy but still sunny. On Wednesday 20 Franklin D. Roosevelt is in for a second term as President of the United States. He later on, on Friday, proposed a plan to enlarge the Supreme Court of the United States. Today we had a meeting and I had not been able to sleep peacefully because of a problem the U.S still has to overcome known as the Great Depression. Japan had recovered from their depression why isn’t it easy for us to do so too? We have been informed that Japan had invaded China. Japan is currently at war with China. There is too much to deal starting with the war currently residing in East Asia along with the civil war outbreak in Mexico. This broke out on Thursday the 18th the Spanish Civil War which was when Spanish Republican forced the Italian a grave defeat at the Battle of Guadalajara. On September Sunday the 5th the fall of Llanes happened and following that, Monday the 6th it was the start of the Battle of El Mazuco. But, do we necessarily have to aid Japan? After all we are close allies. If we do aid Japan, then our economy will just become worse, there will be another huge downfall. We have not recovered yet from the depression brought from the previous war. Lord be with us and guide the United States of America as we make thoughtful decisions. With the help from us, will China be able to breath a little bit and shrug Japan off it’s back? Japan is one of our allies but what they are doing to China is just madness, as well as making Europe a part of this matter. Should America get involved and settle this madness? This unequal chaos should stop and unless this stops, I know for sure I am not going to be able to sleep without having a nightmare or an endless search of a solution.- Just now I heard that Japan had occupied the East Coast of China.

DIARY II

July 15, 1940
Today, I read back on what I had wrote three years ago and can relate to this still. I am too filled with other things to discuss about general stuff such as the weather. I do't have time to eat or talk to my family. I still am taunted with nightmares and endless stress. A lot had happened in the past three years. Just last year ,1939, The President of the United-States Franklin D. Roosevelt approved the sales of U.S. war planes to France. But from that two years ago, 1938, Frances Moulton became the first president of a US national bank. On Monday of 31 in 1938 there was an effort to try restore investor confidence, the New York Stock Exchange reveals a fifteen-point program aimed to upgrade protection for the investing public. August 1939 Wednesday the 23 Germany and the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression treaty- Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. This should be signed between Japan and the Soviet Union. Then, it will have at least a small impact on the invasion of Japan. We had declared neutrality in war in September 1939. We can not risk anymore economic depression. It is better to stay neutral rather than get involved and cause more damage. Then this happened. Wednesday 11 of October 1939 President Franklin D. Roosevelt presented a letter signed by Albert Einstein- urging us to rapidly develop an atomic bomb program, This known as the Manhattan Project. As for the war in Europe, it is currently still in progress. Then, the Japan declared Nanking to be the capital of a new Chinese puppet government, controlled by Wang Ching- wei. What is next? What more causes can be done. I am afraid that if we don not interfere further more, then China as well as the countries it possess are in danger. I really do hope that the treaty made between Russia and Japan come into play real soon. We are at the moment creating a atomic bomb. Maybe this will threaten Japan or at least give them a sense of fear so they will stop the madness and the chaos they are causing.
